Each situation presents challenges with unique opportunities to help an elder cope with the challenges of aging today. Here are some ways our volunteers are making a difference for people in the Catskills….
-
- Visit seniors to provide companionship and friendly conversation. If appropriate, we help them engage in activities such as simple exercise, reading, puzzles and word games.
- Assist with household issues such as safety, organization and light cleaning.
-
- Help transport seniors to local appointments or shopping.
-
- Go on errands for seniors who are homebound.
-
- Help with pets, such as walking a dog or dumping cat litter.
-
- Procure essential supplies such as food or clothing, when possible.
-
- Work with agencies for needed services.
-
- If indicated, and with the senior’s permission, we keep in touch with families to coordinate services.
Catskill Neighbors volunteers always maintain confidentiality when working with a senior, members of the community or outside agencies. If someone believes that one of our volunteers has behaved inappropriately toward a client, we will investigate the situation with discretion.
